View Motor Oils at Reifen.atMotor oil lubricates, cools and cleans the engine. Which oil your vehicle needs is specified in the owner’s manual as a manufacturer approval (e.g. VW 504.00, MB 229.51). In Austria, typical change intervals according to ARBÖ are 15,000 to 30,000 km, depending on model and driving profile.
For modern petrol and diesel engines
PopularUniversal use, even under high stress
PopularFor extreme cold and optimal fuel efficiency
Classic for older vehicles
EDGE, GTX, Magnatec
ESP, FS, 0W-40
Helix Ultra, HX7, HX8
Top Tec, MoS2, Synthoil
Quartz, INEO

Look for the correct approval (e.g., VW 504.00, BMW LL-04)
5L cans are usually cheaper than 1L bottles
Regular change every 15,000-30,000 km recommended

Your vehicle's manual specifies exact requirements. Manufacturer approvals (e.g. VW 507.00, MB 229.51) must match exactly.
First number (e.g. 5W) = winter behavior, second number (e.g. 30) = high temperature viscosity. Lower values = thinner = better cold start.
Synthetic oils usually offer better protection and longer change intervals. Mineral oil may be more suitable for older vehicles. Semi-synthetic is a compromise.
5-liter cans are often cheaper per liter than 1-liter bottles. Can be worthwhile with regular top-ups.
Observe manufacturer specifications - usually 15,000-30,000 km or annually. Short trips and city traffic may require more frequent changes.
Oil filter should be changed with every oil change. Old filter can contaminate new oil.
Regularly check oil level (monthly or before long trips). Between Min and Max is optimal. Too little or too much can damage engine.
NEVER dispose of old oil in drains/nature! Dealers/workshops accept old oil free of charge. Environmentally harmful and punishable!
Society of Automotive Engineers Standard. 5W = winter viscosity (flows at -30°C), 30 = viscosity at 100°C. Lower = thinner.
European Automobile Manufacturers Association. C = catalyst-compatible, number = performance class. Important for exhaust aftertreatment.
American Petroleum Institute. S = gasoline engine (C for diesel), N = performance level. Later in alphabet = newer specification.
Manufacturer approval from Volkswagen. Each manufacturer has own standards (BMW LL-04, MB 229.51, etc.). Must match exactly!
In emergency: Yes, but not recommended. Oils with same specification can be mixed, but performance may suffer. Change completely at next opportunity. Never mix diesel and gasoline oil!
Longlife oils are designed for extended change intervals (up to 30,000 km). Only use if vehicle manufacturer specifies! Not suitable for all engines, especially not for short-distance drivers.
Motor oil lubricates moving parts, prevents wear, cools the engine, cleans combustion residues and protects against corrosion. Without or with wrong oil, total engine failure threatens within very short time.
Yes, switch is possible and often advantageous. With very old engines with leaky seals, synthetic oil may seep through more. Ask workshop if unsure. Reverse (synthetic→mineral) usually not sensible.
IMMEDIATELY turn off engine and secure vehicle! Do not continue driving! Check oil level. If too low: top up with suitable oil. If light stays on: have towed. Continuing can destroy engine!

⚖️ Important Notice: All information without guarantee. Motor oil specifications, prices and manufacturer approvals may change. ALWAYS use the specifications stated in your vehicle's owner's manual. Wrong motor oil can cause serious engine damage. Consult a specialist if unsure. We accept no liability for damage caused by incorrect oil selection.
